I bet you're all screaming at me to get a life and stop criticizing poor Takeuchi-san. While I do often bang my head reviewing her experiments, that's because I'm reviewing on a "normalcy" scale. Actually I admire Takeuchi-san's work very much. That's why I have a shrine to it. Have you ever gagged at European fashion shows? Come on, anyone who's seen pictures of the things featured there have. We all think, "Oh my god, no one's ever going to buy that." That's the whole point. The point of those horrid European fashion shows is CREATIVITY, not salability. One thing for sure, Takeuchi-san sure has a LOT of creativity.
What amazes me is that she can dream up so many different and unique designs, and has the boldness to show it to the world through her artbooks. She is not afraid to experiment and explore places unknown.
Takeuchi-san has also designed some of the most gorgeous dresses I have ever seen. There is a time for experimentation, but there is also a time to follow classic principles. She excels at both.
Takeuchi-san also designs all over the spectrum. I prefer to stay with solid colors, but Takeuchi-san has done everything from solids to prints and in between. She also works with a lot of materials (velvet, silk, cotton, etc), easily captured with her paintbrush (or whatever artistic medium). That kind of versatality is important to be good at anything, not just fashion designing.
She is an artist to be admired. We all know that much.
